Anti-terrorism police units in Japan will receive more sophisticated equipment following the deadly attacks in Paris.
The National Police Agency has decided anti-firearms squads stationed in major cities should be equipped with bullet-proof vehicles and automatic rifles.
Agency officials say the automatic rifles have a longer range than the submachine guns currently in use.
The agency will start an automatic Internet search system on terrorism-related information by the end of March next year, earlier than previously planned.
The government’s draft supplementary budget for this fiscal year includes about 63 million dollars to cover the new security measures.
