The Mie Prefectural assembly has adopted an ordinance banning the flight of drones over or near the venues of next year’s Group of Seven summit.
The prefecture says this is the first application of such a rule in Japan.
The order that passed the assembly on Monday prohibits the flying of unmanned aerial vehicles over Kashiko-jima Island in Shima City, where the summit will take place, as well as anywhere within 1.5 kilometers of the island.
It also says no drone flights will be allowed over places being visited by the world leaders, or within 300 meters of such places.
The no-fly rule will be in force for about 2 months, from March 27th to May 28th.
