CHISINAU, January 22. /TASS/. Thousands of protesters in Moldova’s capital Chisinau have staged pickets outside the buildings of the Constitutional Court and the Publika TV channel that they claim are “controlled by oligarchs.”
The protest is attended by supporters of the opposition Party of Socialists, Our Party and the Dignity and Truth (DA) civic platform who have been united in a single column.
The activists have blocked the central avenue in Chisinau. Police have not taken action against them so far. The demonstrators shout “Down with Mafia” and call for imprisoning Vladimir Plakhotnyuk, the first deputy chairman of the Democratic Party of Moldova.
The socialists handed over their demand for the Constitutional Court on Thursday to rule that the new government of Pavel Filip is illegal and called on the judges not to delay this decision.
On January 20, the opposition picketed the parliament’s building where the ceremony of the government’s endorsement was held. The cabinet was approved within slightly more than six minutes by the parliamentary majority formed around the Democratic Party. The candidate was not even given a chance to speak about the future cabinet’s program.
The opposition also insists on the dissolution of the parliament and holding early elections.
